In Blackest Day, In Darkest Night

October 1, 2026

Heya! It’s been a brick since I’ve posted. Not because I haven’t wanted to. Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave has a stranglehold on me and I don’t think it will be done for….years. I have so much I want to talk about with this game….but I want to wait till I’ve finished all 4 storylines and digested it. As an Edelgard-stan, Theodora’s story really drew me in. Moreso that I think her story is a classic tale of Black womanhood filled with self-sacrifice and having to prove to people she belongs. That essay will come…...hopefully by the end of this year.

Otherwise, things have really been looking up! I fell into a deep depression over the past few months. I’ve written about it in a few of my previous posts. I have never felt so awful before. Talking to people felt like I was pulling out my insides. I didn’t really want to do much except be alone — and I despise being alone. I’ve adjusted my medication and I can’t overstate how much better I feel. I’m starting to get back into my regular calls and hopefully will start seeing my friends again. Honestly, it’s been a bit embarrassing. I don’t know how to explain, “Sorry I didn’t talk to you for 2 months. Everything outside of my small hobbies made me feel like I was going to die! And it still kinda does :)”. We’ll see. I’ll just need to take it step by step.

I haven’t only been gaming though! I watched But I’m a Cheerleader for my workout a few weeks ago. I enjoy it, but I’m not sure it hit for me as hard as it did other people. The movie follows Natasha Lyonne, as she gets sent away to a conversion therapy camp to make her “normal” again. It’s very cute and very 90s. It was fun to see a young Natasha Lyonne, Rupaul, and Dante Basco (yes, Zuko) on the screen like this. I think if I saw this earlier in my queer journey, or even when I was a lot younger, I would’ve landed more positively on it. But as it is now, it was a cute and fun movie I don’t think I’d go out of my way to watch again or recommend.

The dads in Dadcord got me to watch the new DC show, Lanterns. I’m mad at them cause the show is really good and now I’m sitting here waiting for the final episode of the season. Lanterns follows a young John Stewart as he’s being trained by an older Hal Jordan to be a backup Green Lantern. They fall deep into an extraterrastrial mystery that leads them to a small town in Nebraska. I…..I didn’t realize how much I wanted this “buddy cop” version of these characters. I’ve never been too big of a fan of the Green Lantern Corp, but I love John Stewart. Hal Jordan has always felt very vanilla to me when it comes to superheroes. I’m just not interested in white dude in the US Air Force yadda yadda. But this take on him being a hot-tempered, impatient asshole is so good. The contrast and power struggle the 2 go through is so good. They have a lot to say about white privilege and the Black struggle. I don’t think all of it lands well — but it’s refreshing nonetheless. Highly recommend!

We’ve also been hyperfixated on a new indie game — Batomon: Showdown!

Take Pokemon and mix in Super Auto Pets/The Bazaar and you get this game. You select 1 of 3 trainers to start your run. You can then purchase any of the 5 creatures to make a team. If you get 3 of the same creature, they’ll merge into themselves and level up! It’s a blast. I’ve been playing mostly on my phone. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a good mobile game to kill some time with! Warning: it’s incredibly addictive.

That’s all from me this week. Hopefully I can get back to doing some interesting things and touch grass after I’ve crawled out of this depressive stint. See y’all next week!
